The characteristics of the New Culture Movement are mainly aimed at Confucius and Mencius who have ruled China for more than two thousand years. In the feudal society of China, Confucius and Mencius thought was skillfully used by the ruling class and became a moral tool to maintain the monarchy. Therefore, the New Culture Movement put forward the slogan "Down with Kongjiadian", which is its core movement thought. 19 16 years, after Yuan Shikai proclaimed himself emperor, many people who supported the monarchy began to encourage constitutional monarchy, "the country can't live without a monarch for a day" and other erroneous ideas in an attempt to reverse the historical trend and return China to the feudal era. Headed by Chen Duxiu, Li Dazhao and others, he published a series of papers such as 19 16 and People's Change and Politics in New Youth magazine, which lashed out at the autocratic monarchy.
