The Origin of World Youth and Student Festival
World Youth Day began in 1984. Pope Paul II invited young people from all over the world to pray with him for world peace, pay attention to young people and how to build a better future. Every two years, people aged 16-35 from all over the world get together to share their same beliefs and exchange their cultures and backgrounds. Although World Youth Day is a Catholic festival, it also invites all young people to participate.
