On the same day, students from 2/KLOC-0 universities and middle schools in North China held a 10,000-person anti-hunger and anti-civil war demonstration in Peiping and Tianjin. Students who marched in Nanjing and Tianjin were beaten, which caused the May 20th bloody case that shocked the whole country. The atrocities of the Kuomintang aroused the students' anger even more, and they continued to fight against the Kuomintang reactionaries through strikes and demonstrations. From late May to mid-June, the slogan of "anti-hunger, anti-civil war and anti-persecution" resounded through more than 60 large and medium-sized cities in the Kuomintang-ruled areas such as Wuhan, Xi, Changsha, Chongqing, Chengdu and Fuzhou.
