The electoral system refers to the system of electing representatives of state representative organs or other public officials. An important part of the national political system. Generally, it is stipulated by the Constitution and the electoral law. Some countries also have provisions on the content of electoral system in criminal law or procedural law, and some countries also include some habits formed in history. Its main contents include the principles of the electoral system, the right to vote, the right to be elected, the electoral procedures, the electoral institutions, the electoral funds and the electoral procedures.
Electoral activities have existed since ancient times, but the modern electoral system is related to the hierarchical meetings in some countries in the late Middle Ages in Europe. At the end of the Middle Ages, Britain, France and other countries had hierarchical (three-level) representative meetings. In addition to nobles and monks, some urban freemen (citizens) were also invited to attend the meeting. Since Britain13rd century, every town has sent two representatives of freemen (citizens) to attend the level meeting. The method of selecting representatives of freemen accumulated experience for the establishment of bourgeois election system later. In the struggle against the feudal system, the emerging bourgeoisie put forward political slogans such as establishing parliament and people's sovereignty. While establishing representative organs, the bourgeoisie also produced its own electoral system. Democracy and harmony are widely practiced in modern countries, and the election of representatives (parliamentarians) of state representative organs and other public officials has become an important part of political life. Because different countries have different historical and cultural traditions and different political systems, there are many differences in their electoral systems.
