Sochi is the first choice for Russia to host the 20 14 Winter Olympics. After winning the Olympic bid in 2007, the government really made up its mind to spend a lot of money to build this holiday town for Black Sea soldiers. In the past seven years, 367 kilometers of roads and bridges, 20 1 km of railways, 22 tunnels, 550 kilometers of high-voltage power lines and 40 new hotels have been built, in addition to 967,000 square meters of roads and sidewalks.

At least one athlete from 88 countries and regions has been qualified for the competition. Seven countries including Dominica, Malta, Paraguay, East Timor, Togo, Tonga and Zimbabwe will make their debut in the Winter Olympics. On the other hand, although one athlete from South Africa, Puerto Rico and Algeria each qualified, the Olympic committees of these countries all indicated that they would not participate in this Winter Olympics.
