An ambitious and positive person is mostly "self-disciplined" and likes to force himself to do what he should do. For example, people advise students: If you don't suffer the hardships of studying and studying, you will have to suffer more hardships in life.
In life, many people want to live a self-disciplined life, and also like to force themselves to do certain things, such as reading, reading, and exercising. But this kind of self-discipline often lasts only three minutes and ends in failure. This is what people often call "intermittent self-discipline and persistent laziness". They really want to become better, but they just can't persist for long. It's easier said than done.
The reason is that this so-called self-discipline is not true self-discipline, but a kind of forced one. In fact, true self-discipline is not a pain, but a kind of enjoyment.
Many people think that the purpose of self-discipline is to achieve a certain goal, and then everything will be fine. In fact, this is not the case. Management by objectives is only a part of personal management and cannot replace true self-discipline.
Some people engage in self-discipline to achieve a certain goal, but once the goal is achieved, they immediately relax their self-management and return to the original state. So, what is the meaning of self-discipline?
For example, someone is self-disciplined in order to lose weight. After he loses weight in a short period of time, he gains weight again after a short period of time due to his uncontrolled life. In this way, he is constantly losing weight and gaining weight. How can he talk about a "self-disciplined life"?
Let’s take reading as an example: Reading is for self-improvement, not to show off knowledge, let alone to tell others how many books you can read every year, and then even ignore the quality of reading in order to achieve your goals.
True self-discipline is a kind of love and conscious persistence from the heart, not for the so-called "goal". Once people equate self-discipline with achieving goals, this will lead to a lot of deception, and eventually they will deviate from the original intention and forget the original intention.
There is a saying that "when I am self-disciplined, my life will be king." It can be seen that true self-discipline should be based on long-term strategic considerations, not to achieve immediate short-term goals. Therefore, a correct self-discipline should be to develop good habits that will benefit you throughout your life, rather than regarding short-term results as the only goal.
For example, if we do not regard weight loss as the goal of self-discipline, but regard developing a healthy life as the goal of self-discipline, the effect will be very different. Losing weight is a short-term goal, and there is a possibility of rebound; but once we develop healthy living habits, controlling our weight will be a matter of course, and the problem will be fundamentally solved.
For example, those children with excellent academic performance are often not because of how smart they are, nor because of how hard they study at a certain period of time, but because they have developed good self-disciplined study habits: Cultivate Read and study, write the words well, record all the wrong questions in the correction book, preview the textbook content in advance, etc.
And truly smart parents do not just focus on their children’s test scores, but know how to help their children establish good study habits. Because after developing good reading and study habits, children will benefit for life, and everything will fall into place and bear fruit.
Therefore, true self-discipline does not mean sacrificing oneself in order to achieve a certain goal, but working hard for a long time in order to become a good self, allowing oneself to develop good habits and enhance one's soft power.
Einstein has a famous saying: "Interest is the best teacher." In fact, true self-discipline should come from inner liking and impulse, and then use interest as a guide. Finally, it should be "just work hard, don't ask about the harvest." But God will not let down those who work hard, and no pain will be rewarded.
Many people know this truth: "The easiest thing is persistence, and the hardest thing is persistence."
Therefore, when we first choose what we want to insist on, we must be sincere and calm, try to follow the call of our hearts, and choose things that we love from the bottom of our hearts. In this way, our persistence will be more motivated and the probability of success will be greater.
True self-discipline does not mean forcing yourself, but "getting used to management", which will benefit you throughout your life. For example, try to develop some good habits, regular work and rest, keep reading and studying, keep exercising, etc.
True self-discipline should be based on long-term value considerations and should not care about temporary gains and losses.
As Laozi said in "Tao Te Ching": The big things in the world must be done in details, and the difficult things in the world must be done in easy ways. When we handle both small things and easy things, habits will become natural and finally solved. Big things and difficult things will come to you easily.
