The traditional ceremony is usually completed by the master and the apprentice, and sometimes the novice apprentice and the master's mother will also attend together.

The master's ritual process is as follows:

1. Worship one's ancestors, that is, to protect the gods, to pray for the blessing of one's ancestors, and at the same time to show respect for one's ancestors and piety.

2. Appreciate the teacher. Generally, the master and the hostess sit in the main position, and the disciples who need to be apprenticed give them three heads, and then present and post them to the teacher. Some customs also offer tea to the host.

3. Master speaks, telling new disciples the rules of the door, naming names, etc. The content of the speech is generally to educate disciples to respect their ancestors, abide by rules and regulations, and encourage them to be honest and clean and study hard.

The traditional "Tongdian" began to mention the ceremony of learning from teachers. The book "Etiquette Law" in June and July emphasized that "the son of heaven worships and protects Fu", saying that the son of heaven should also worship teachers and bring them into the national code system. But it only talks about the respect of teachers by Emperor Han Chengdi and others, and does not record their etiquette, so I guess there was no such formal etiquette in ancient times.

Hand gift is only used when students pay homage to Confucius, and the teacher returns the gift on behalf of Confucius. On the statue of Confucius, Confucius used this gesture of returning gifts. Cross your hands on your chest, push them out and flatten them.

The formation of China's custom of worshipping teachers is mainly influenced by the norms of Confucianism, which can be traced back to Confucius' practice of accepting disciples and evolved from it. Until modern times, Chinese medicine and traditional arts in China still adopt the way of learning and imparting skills to teachers.
