I remember when I was in first grade, I was very introverted and timid. During recess, I would not take the initiative to talk to anyone unless my classmates talked to me first. One time in class, the teacher was teaching ancient poetry. I didn't know what the "frost on the ground" in the poem "suspected to be frost on the ground" meant, and the teacher didn't explain it, so I had to go home and ask my mother. When I got home, I told my mother this question, but my mother told me to ask the teacher. "Ask the teacher! I don't dare." This is a big problem for me. I am usually very afraid of teachers. I don't even dare to pass by the teacher, let alone take the initiative to talk to the teacher. So, my mother said to me: "Nini, there is a famous saying that 'asking questions is half of the knowledge gained.' That is to say, if you don't understand, just ask, so that you can understand the knowledge." After listening to my mother's words, the next day , I mustered up the courage, walked up to the teacher, and said, "Teacher Zhang, I don't understand the 'frost on the ground' in 'suspected to be frost on the ground'. Can you explain it to me?" At this time, my heart slammed. I jumped up and down. I thought the teacher would scold me because I couldn't do such a simple thing. Unexpectedly, the teacher explained it to me with a smile. My hanging heart was finally relieved. After the teacher talked for a while, he saw that I still didn't understand much, so he talked about it word by word until I understood it. From then on, whenever I encountered something I didn’t understand, I would ask the teacher for help. Sometimes the teacher would ask everyone the question I asked while still in class, and I would stand up and tell everyone. After class, my classmates asked me why I knew so much, and I told them, "If you ask questions, you will already know half of the knowledge." This is the truth.

After that incident, I understood better the meaning of the famous saying "A good question is half of the knowledge gained".
