1. "Viewing the Sea"
Author: Cao Cao in the late Eastern Han Dynasty
To the east is Jieshi to view the sea. Where is the water? The mountains and islands are standing tall.
There are many trees and lush grass. The autumn wind is bleak and the waves are rising.
The journey of the sun and the moon, if it comes out of it. The stars are as brilliant as if they came out of it.
Fortunately, I sing to express my ambition.
Translation:
Go east and climb Jieshi Mountain to see the vast sea. The sea is so wide and mighty, and the mountain islands stand high on the seashore.
It is very lush with trees and grasses. The autumn wind blows the trees and makes a sad sound, and huge waves surge in the sea.
The movements of the sun and moon seem to emanate from this vast ocean. The stars of the Milky Way are brilliant, as if they were produced from this vast ocean.
I am very happy and use this poem to express my inner ambition.
2. "Spring Journey to Qiantang Lake"
Author: Bai Juyi of the Tang Dynasty
To the west of Jiating in the north of Gushan Temple, the water surface is initially flat and the clouds are low.
Early orioles are vying for warmth in several places, while new swallows are pecking at the spring mud.
The wild flowers are becoming more and more charming, so only Asakusa has no horse hooves.
My favorite lake is the east side of the lake, with its green poplar shade and white sand embankment.
Translation:
Walking to the north of Gushan Temple and west of Jia Gong Pavilion, I stopped for a while and looked up into the distance. I saw the water level rising, white clouds hanging low, and the beauty boundless.
A few orioles are flying to the sunny trees first, while whose swallows are carrying spring mud to build new nests?
The flowers are colorful, almost charming, and the wild grass is green, just covering the horse's hooves.
The scenery on the east side of the lake is unforgettable. The most lovely thing is the white sand embankment shaded by green poplars.
3. "Inscription on the West Forest Wall"
Author: Su Shi of the Song Dynasty
Viewed horizontally, it looks like a ridge and peaks on the side, with different heights near and far.
I don’t know the true face of Mount Lu, just because I am in this mountain.
Translation:
Looking at the rolling hills and towering peaks of Mount Lu from the front and side, looking at Mount Lu from a distance, from near, from high and low, you will see that Mount Lu presents a variety of different look. The reason why I can't recognize the true face of Lushan Mountain is because I am in Lushan Mountain myself.
4. "Passing Through an Old Friend's Village"
Author: Meng Haoran of the Tang Dynasty
An old friend brought chicken and millet and invited me to Tian's house. The green trees border the village, and the green mountains and hills slope outside.
Open a dining room and chat over wine. When the Double Ninth Festival comes, there will be chrysanthemums.
Translation:
An old friend prepared a sumptuous meal and wanted to invite me to his hospitable farmhouse. Green woods surround the village, and green mountains lie outside the city.
Open the window and face the vegetable garden of the threshing floor, holding a wine glass in hand and chatting about the crops. When the Double Ninth Festival comes, please come here to enjoy the chrysanthemums.
5. "Wang Yue"
Author: Du Fu of Tang Dynasty
How about Dai Zongfu? Qilu is still young. The clock of creation is beautiful, and the yin and yang cut off the dawn.
Zeng Yun is born in the chest, and the returning bird enters the canthus. You will be at the top of the mountain, and you will have a panoramic view of the mountains.
Translation:
Dongyue Mount Tai, how is the scenery? Walking out of Qilu, the mountain scenery is still vivid in my mind. The magical nature brings together thousands of beautiful scenery, with mountains to the south and north to separate the morning and dusk.
Layers of white clouds wash away the ravines in the chest; the returning birds fly into the eye sockets to enjoy the scenery. You must climb to the top of Mount Tai to overlook the mountains and feel full of pride.
