A brief introduction to "Show mercy to farmers";

It is a five-character ancient poem written by Li Shen, a poet in the Tang Dynasty, which is included in the whole Tang poetry.

This group of poems profoundly reflects the living conditions of farmers in feudal China.

The poem vividly depicts the fruitful scenes in various places, highlighting the realistic problem that farmers have worked hard to get a bumper harvest, but they have starved to death with empty hands.

About the author:

Li Shen (772 -846), the word Gong Chui. Originally from Qiaocheng County, Bozhou (now Qiaocheng District, Bozhou City, Anhui Province). Tang dynasty prime minister, poet, Li's great-grandson, secretary of the Central Secretariat.

Shen Li lost his father at the age of six and moved to Wuxi, Runzhou with his mother. At the age of 27, he became a scholar and a teaching assistant in Guo Zi. Later, he served as assistant minister of Zhongshu, right servant of Shangshu, and ambassador of Huainan. He died in Yangzhou in the sixth year of Huichang (846) at the age of 74. Mourning Qiu, posthumous title "Wen Su".

Li Shen made close friends with Yuan Zhen and Bai Juyi, and was a participant in the New Yuefu Movement.

He wrote 20 new poems about Yuefu, which have been lost.
