Once upon a time...

Two people stepped onto the roof. "Are you sure?" the woman asked.

"Of course!" the man replied, stepping into the howling wind. The two of them walked towards the edge of the roof together.

They looked down the side of a huge building. Standing 4,000 feet tall, the structure is a monolith surrounded by dozens of acres of farmland and other large structures beyond.

"Nice view," the woman commented. She closes one eye and the contact with the other eye automatically takes a picture, which is then sharpened and stored in the cloud.

Together the two looked at the sun as it sank behind the Arcologies (huge buildings in one of which they were standing). As the sun set, the two looked at the moon, filled with the glittering lights of the palatial city above.

The two walked inside and passed through a door that was closed behind them. The two said goodbye to each other and went to bed.

The implant in a man's body opens up and releases melanin, making the man very tired. In just a moment, he fell asleep.

The world of the future is an impressive place. Huge eco-buildings house most of the people, mostly surrounded by farmland. However, the people who live here are middle class.

Rich people live on the moon. Generations of construction wage gaps are finally driving the two completely apart. Large automated factories produce every good thing imaginable, and wealthy people happily customize their own furniture and homes through advanced 3D printing production factories. The future is a beautiful world.

But this is also a world without purpose. Artificial intelligence has advanced to the point where people no longer need to complete any tasks themselves. Life is too easy...meaningless. Want to say something special to your loved one? Google it and feed your contact’s information to the AI ??and it will get a flawless response within seconds.

Because of this, video games are extremely popular. Celebrities in this day and age are social media/video game stars. Many people try to find their purpose in game code.

Is this the life you want? A life where nothing is easy? Where is there no pain?

This is the life we ??are heading towards. Even gizmos like melatonin implants will be upon us in a few years, making sleep instant and easy. Waking up is as easy as the implant releasing new hormones.

You will be the one who chooses this life. There aren't many other possibilities out there, but some are worse.

The choice is before you.

This is a legitimate world possibility. From a purpose perspective, this is pretty bleak. But the reason I do this is to illustrate a point: humans are being replaced by artificial intelligence. This is shocking because many people think the purpose is to actually do things, rather than experience things. I don't understand how to solve this problem. Elon Musk doesn't know how to solve this problem. No one will. Maybe one day...
