They will become the backbone of China's socialist modernization and the main force participating in fierce international competition. Judging from the number of college students and their important role in the future, they shoulder the bright future of the Chinese nation. Therefore, it is the requirement of the times and the need of society for college students to strengthen patriotism education.
1 Time Connotation of Patriotism
Patriotism embodies the people's deep feelings for the motherland, reflects the individual's dependence on the motherland, and is the unity of people's sense of belonging, identity, dignity and honor to the motherland, nationality and culture. It is the moral requirement, political principle and legal norm to adjust the relationship between individuals and the motherland, and it is also the core of national spirit. Under the new historical conditions, it is the basic requirement for college students to inherit the fine tradition of patriotism, carry forward the Chinese spirit and be loyal patriots [1].
According to relevant data, 90% of college students now consider themselves patriotic. This mainstream is good, but the problem cannot be ignored. How patriotic they are, how strong their patriotic consciousness is, and how they react to those unpatriotic behaviors in society, whether rational or irrational. Based on the above-mentioned situation and these basic problems, the author conducted a thorough and detailed investigation and study on the present situation of patriotic consciousness of contemporary college students by issuing questionnaires, objectively analyzed the present situation and its roots of patriotic consciousness of contemporary college students, and put forward corresponding countermeasures.
2 Investigation and analysis of patriotic consciousness of contemporary college students
Patriotism is the traditional virtue of the Chinese nation and the correct values and life choices of contemporary college students. However, under the condition of market economy, some college students are spiritually empty, lose their direction in life, lose their motivation in action and pursue material enjoyment, which leads to the decline of patriotism [2]. The author selected some college students in our school 1-2 to conduct a questionnaire survey. A total of 860 questionnaires were sent out and 847 were recovered, with a recovery rate of 98.49%. The following are some data obtained from the survey and their analysis results.
(1) Do you feel that you are from China?
A is proud, B is proud, C sometimes feels proud, and D doesn't feel it.
Analysis: The results show that most students are proud to be China people. The first two items add up to 77.6% and the first three items add up to 93.2%, which reflects the deep feelings of contemporary college students for the motherland.
(2) Have you ever paid attention to the territorial dispute over Diaoyu Islands between China and Japan?

Analysis: The survey shows that the vast majority of students are very concerned about the Diaoyu Islands dispute between China and Japan, which reflects the positive attitude of contemporary college students towards national territorial security, but at the same time, a quarter of the respondents said they were not concerned, which deserves our further analysis.
(3) If you have the opportunity to study abroad and succeed, foreign countries will retain you with a high salary, but national construction also needs talents like you, but the salary is low. Your practice is to return to China immediately. Stay abroad for your better development. Stay abroad for a few years first, but don't come back.
Analysis: The results show that the vast majority of students are very willing to return to China to develop and serve the motherland, and only a few stay abroad for their own interests.
(4) How do you think to solve the territorial dispute between China and foreign countries?

Nearly one-third of the students choose option B, thinking that all parties should shelve disputes and ignore sovereignty, but emphasize the right to development and utilization; There are also very few students who hold a negative attitude and think that the value of the Diaoyu Islands and other territories can be ignored and should be abandoned in time.
(5) Which of the following actions will you take against some countries that interfere in our internal affairs and attempt to undermine our territorial integrity? (explanation: multiple choices) A will never go to the shopping malls in this country or buy its products again. B will strongly condemn the country through QQ, newspapers, TV, blogs and other media. C will go to the country's shopping malls to make trouble, affecting its normal business. D there will be a demonstration. E will organize people to retaliate against people in nearby countries. Analysis: From the results of this multiple-choice question, we can easily see the strong patriotic enthusiasm of contemporary college students, and the proportion of B and D choices has reached nearly 80%, which directly shows that most college students can remain rational in patriotic actions; However, the proportion of irrational behavior in option A that retaliates by economic means is as high as 60%, which shows that most students still have quite irrational patriotic consciousness and lack understanding of economy, politics and diplomacy. In addition, the most noteworthy thing is that the proportion of C, E and F options has reached 30%, which shows that these students are easily carried away by temporary emotions and then make a series of extreme behaviors, which is harmful to the whole thing.
(6) Will you forward comments on such events on QQ group?
A don't forward it, I don't care about this kind of thing. B regardless of right and wrong, forward wonderful comments. C forward it after knowing the truth of the matter and feeling consistent with his own point of view.
Analysis: The result of this question is also very clear. In the face of right and wrong, most students can remain rational and make correct judgments. Nearly 20% students are not sober enough and will make unwise behavior hastily; And 10% students don't care about such events at all.
(7) As a college student, what do you think of the attitude of your classmates (including yourself) towards patriotism? A is very passionate and has a general attitude towards action B. Sometimes action C is sincere but not action D.
Analysis: It can be seen that half of people think that their classmates are full of patriotic feelings and implement them; Some people think that students around them usually act occasionally, while others think that they can't act at all. Only a few students think that the students around them don't care about it.
(8) Do you feel patriotic after 80s and 90s?
Yes, very strong, comparable to parents. B yes, but not as active as my parents, and there is no obvious performance. C is indifferent to patriotism and lacks necessary education. D individualism is serious and patriotism is seriously lacking.
Analysis: The results show that more than half of the students think that the patriotic enthusiasm of the post-80s and post-90s generation is not as strong as that of their parents, more than 40% think that their patriotic enthusiasm is as strong as that of their parents, and only a few think that they lack or have no patriotic enthusiasm.
3 Analysis of the reasons for the weak sense of patriotism of contemporary college students
It is not difficult to see from the above survey data that most college students have a strong sense of patriotism, which can be shown in the first to third questions of the questionnaire. The statistical results show that most college students are proud of their country, often pay attention to current affairs at home and abroad, and say that they can respond to the call of the country and will return to China immediately to build the motherland when it is needed. This is commendable. Although many college students don't care about political current affairs, most of them have shown a positive attitude in the Diaoyu Islands dispute between China and Japan, which shows that contemporary college students can still remember national humiliation, which is worthy of recognition and praise. However, it is worthy of attention and vigilance that the patriotic consciousness of contemporary college students is irrational, which is mainly due to the legacy of history and their own one-sided understanding of the problem. A considerable number of college students, because of their lack of comprehensive understanding of territorial disputes and historical issues, are easily influenced by emotions and people around them and take many irrational and even extreme actions. This kind of behavior will not only help solve the dispute, but will increase the burden on the country and society, and will also have a bad influence on the national image. Generally speaking, the patriotism of contemporary college students still tends to be weak and irrational, which mainly comes from three aspects.
(1) Social reasons. Over the past 30 years of reform and opening up, China's economy has developed rapidly and achieved remarkable achievements, but problems have followed, such as the excessive gap between the rich and the poor and the imbalance of urban-rural dual structure. The self-awareness of most groups in society is getting stronger and stronger, and utilitarianism is prevalent, thus ignoring the richness of individual spirit, including patriotism. College students are a group about to enter the society, and many social phenomena will have a certain impact on them. Especially in recent years, the employment situation of college students is grim, which makes most college students focus on their own material aspects, such as employment, work, treatment, housing and so on. Such social consciousness has influenced the value orientation of college students to a certain extent, leading to the weakening of patriotism [3].
(2) Educational reasons. Under the framework of the current exam-oriented education system, patriotism education is only a part of moral education, and its status has been greatly weakened. Although the exam-oriented in universities has decreased, years of subtle influence have led college students to be accustomed to putting patriotism only in words, and it is difficult to express patriotic feelings through practice.
At the same time, most students think that patriotism has nothing to do with future employment, so many students subconsciously think that patriotism education is irrelevant compared with professional courses, as long as it does not affect their grades and graduation.
(3) personal reasons. With the enrichment of personal experience and the gradual advancement of socialization, the patriotic consciousness of college students has developed rapidly. However, due to the limitations of cognitive ability, self-regulation ability and knowledge and experience, patriotic feelings are vague and immature, and the understanding of patriotism is not deep and stable enough, and the ability of patriotic consciousness to regulate behavior is limited.
4. Countermeasures to enhance college students' patriotic consciousness
College students are the future of the motherland and the hope of the nation, and their growth is related to the future and destiny of the country. Whether college students have a strong sense of patriotism is related to the future development of China. In order to change the weakened patriotic consciousness of college students, we should take active and effective measures to comprehensively enhance their patriotic sentiments.
4. 1 Social aspects
