Commentary: Liu Xinwu reveals the big secret of Lin Daiyu's ending in A Dream of Red Mansions, so please pay attention.
Commentary: According to the in-depth analysis of Zhi Yanzhai's comment on writing, it is generally believed in the red circle that Cao Xueqin's Dream of Red Mansions, for various reasons, was completely lost except for the first 8 chapters, and the last 4 chapters we see now were written by Gao E nearly 3 years after Cao Xueqin's death. Gao E made the following arrangements for the final death of Lin Daiyu, the first heroine of A Dream of Red Mansions. After Jia family's continuous decline, Jia abandoned Lin Daiyu and arranged for Jia Baoyu to marry Xue Baochai in order to give her a happy birthday in a crazy state. Lin Daiyu watched helplessly as her beloved married Xue Baochai. As a result, burning the manuscript was infatuated and eventually died in anger. Such an ending about Lin Daiyu is deeply rooted in people's hearts because of the widespread circulation of the popular book. However, Mr. Liu Xinwu thinks that although burning the manuscript is the most successful part of Gao E's narration, it does not conform to Cao Xueqin's original intention. So, why did Mr. Liu Xinwu come to such a conclusion? How will Cao Xueqin arrange Lin Daiyu's final life ending? Mr. Liu Xinwu, a famous writer, continues to be a guest in Lecture Room, which will completely decipher the mystery of Lin Daiyu's death.
Liu Xinwu: In this lecture, we will discuss how Daiyu died in Cao Xueqin's works. In the novel, it has a special setting for the identities of Baoyu and Daiyu. This novel tells us that Baoyu and Daiyu were originally immortals in the sky. Baoyu was originally a fairy, and he was a waiter in the Red Defect Palace in the sky. Daiyu was originally a fairy grass in the sky, a crimson pearl fairy grass. The waiter Shen Ying in the Red Defect Palace came out every day to irrigate it with nectar, which enabled the crimson pearl fairy grass to grow healthily and later became a female body. Therefore, the crimson pearl fairy grass can be called the crimson pearl fairy after it is cultivated into a female body. When she comes down to earth, she becomes Lin Daiyu, and she will return her tears to the God Ying waiter in the sky. Then, because this God Ying waiter is Jia Baoyu after she comes down to earth, Lin Daiyu will return her tears to Jia Baoyu all her life. This is a mythical design of character relationship told to readers in the first time, which is a very beautiful description.
In the book, in the later plot flow, we have a feeling that these two people who descended from heaven to earth themselves did not know that they were descended from heaven. This is a situation. Unless they dream, sometimes they may vaguely recover their feeling of being in heaven. On earth, they don't know that they have the identity of celestial immortals. They are just like other earthly people. Lin Daiyu tears every time she quarrels with Jia Baoyu. According to the first assumption, she is still irrigation. Is there a time in the book that Lin Daiyu has almost shed tears? There is. This is in the 49 th time. Daiyu said, saying that I only feel bitter recently, but my tears seem to be less than in the old year. Although my heart is sore, there are not many tears. As a woman in the world, she used to love to cry and always had so many tears. Now she realizes that she has fewer tears.
Then she didn't realize that a crimson pearl fairy in her sky was still crying. However, readers will understand when they read more here, saying that her total tears should be basically equal to the total amount irrigated by the waiter Shen Ying in heaven. Then this quantity keeps decreasing and finally approaches zero. Then it's going to zero. Therefore, it actually indicates that Lin Daiyu's journey of returning tears has an end.
what about Baoyu? Although he was a fairy, he didn't know what was going on when he came to earth, so all his thoughts were human. What did Baoyu say after hearing this from Daiyu? Baoyu said, this is because you are used to crying, and your heart is suspicious. Is there any tears that will be less? He doesn't know that they have a special relationship, and people's tears will be less. After your irrigation amount was almost the same, people stopped crying.
Commentary: In A Dream of Red Mansions, the design of first hero Jia Baoyu and female No.1 Lin Daiyu by author Cao Xueqin is really exquisite and special. Especially, they are endowed with the status of Shen Ying waiter and crimson pearl fairy grass respectively, which makes their ups and downs tragic stories full of mysterious measurement. For Lin Daiyu, who has the status of a celestial being, how to arrange her final ending must be carefully designed by the author Cao Xueqin. Then, in the first 8 chapters of A Dream of Red Mansions, the burial of flowers by Daiyu, which can best reflect Lin Daiyu's living condition and spiritual temperament, provides us with the best text to deeply analyze the author Cao Xueqin's creative intention. In this way, one of the most beautiful pictures in A Dream of Red Mansions is the burial of flowers by Daiyu. What kind of life characteristics does it reflect? And what does this have to do with her ultimate death?
Liu Xinwu: Lin Daiyu is described in the book. She has one characteristic, one is her poetic existence. Her life is poetic, and Lin Daiyu's life is fully artistic. Daiyu's flower burial is a complete performance art, and the concept of performance art has only appeared and become lively in the west in the past 1 years, even in the past 5 years. But our ancestor Cao Xueqin wrote about Lin Daiyu's performance art in his novels more than 2 years ago. This is by no means an exaggeration. Do you think her burial of flowers is performance art? First of all, she has props. What's there? There is a flower hoe, because she will bury the flowers last, and she will dig the pit and have a flower hoe. Lin Daiyu is a fragile person. She carries a flower hoe. Do you think if this flower hoe is not an artistic flower hoe, it is a flower hoe bought in a city. Let alone carrying it, she can't lift it, right? It means that she has made a flower hoe for herself that she can carry on her shoulders. This flower hoe must be specially made. This is not an artistic act. What is it? And this flower hoe also has a flower sac hanging on it, which is obviously carefully sewn and embroidered. It's not over yet. I need a flower broom in my other hand, because that petal needs to be swept together. Then think about this flower broom. Can it be the big broom used by that silly elder sister? Definitely not. It must be a very delicate one, and the raw material it makes may not necessarily be bamboo or something, which is hard for us to imagine, but we can imagine that it is completely artistic.
Needless to say, she must have carefully designed her own clothes that day. Then, she carried a flower hoe with a flower bag on it, and she still had a flower broom in this hand. She had props. So, she has a route to bury flowers, she has made a good reconnaissance in advance, she has a route, she comes out of her Xiaoxiang Pavilion, along what place, for example, after passing the Qinfang Gate, no matter what, she finally reaches a corner in Hua Zhong, and she has a route. In the whole process, she sang her own prepared funeral lyrics. Her behavior is a vocal performance art, not silent. This is Lin Daiyu. You think it is remarkable that Cao Xueqin could imagine such a scene, shape such a character and have such a complete artistic behavior at that time.
On another occasion, Lin Daiyu left Xiaoxiang Pavilion. At that time, she was still angry with Baoyu. Although she was angry with Baoyu, as a poetic existence, she was still a poet. Her life is completely artistic. As she walked, she told Zijuan that you should tidy up the house, put a gauze drawer on top of each other, see the big swallow come back, put down the curtain, lean on the lion, burn incense, and cover the stove. What kind of life? Now let's talk about a harmonious society and the harmony between man and nature. Lin Daiyu has been in harmony with nature for a long time, and swallows are allowed to make nests in her house. She said that you cleaned up the house and piled up a gauze drawer. Why? Swallows, big swallows fly out to feed their little swallows, and they have to fly back to feed them, so that the big swallows feel convenient. So there will be a gray space in the screen window of Xiaoxiang Pavilion. There will be a swallow nest in the gray space, and the big swallow will fly back and forth. This is Lin Daiyu's life.
Then put down the curtain. What do you mean, lean on the lion? The lion is a handicraft, which is to hold the bottom edge of the curtain so that it won't be too disordered in the air flow. She arranges her life very delicately, and then of course, she enjoys the thrill of snorting and burns incense. After you put incense in the incense cage, you have to cover the stove with a leaky lid. You see, Lin Daiyu and the noble lady enjoy their lives very much. However, this is not a material enjoyment for her, and she has turned it into a poetic attitude towards life, so as to survive. This is Lin Daiyu. Therefore, Lin Daiyu lives poetically. Once Lin Daiyu has exhausted her tears and wants to leave this world, she will definitely disappear poetically.
Commentary: It stands to reason that in a literary work, the protagonist's life fate and emotional entanglements are nothing more than an artistic creation, and readers will have different reading feelings. However, Mr. Liu Xinwu thinks that although the tragic ending that Gao E arranged for Lin Daiyu to be infatuated with the manuscript is in line with Cao Xueqin's idea in the most basic way of thinking, the handling of Lin Daiyu's death time, cause and way is not in line with Cao Xueqin's original intention, which makes readers seriously mislead the creative intention and aesthetic enjoyment of A Dream of Red Mansions. So, in this case, how will Liu Xinwu solve the real ending of Lin Daiyu first? What is his basis?
Liu Xinwu: Personally, I think that the death of Daiyu should be after the death of Grandmother Jia, because I have made great efforts to analyze it before, so that everyone can understand my personal point that as long as Grandmother Jia lives for one day, Grandmother Jia will escort Daiyu Lin for one day, and Grandmother Jia has been willing to marry Baoyu and Daiyu from the beginning. It is impossible for Jia Mu to make a 18-degree turn and agree to a switch plan. Even if Lin Daiyu is very miserable, she will pull her face down and be rude, which is not in line with Cao Xueqin's previous description of the relationship between Jia Mu and Lin Daiyu. Therefore, Lin Daiyu passed away, first of all, after the death of Jia Mu.
Then, in this case, of course, Mrs. Wang and Aunt Xue, who promoted the golden jade marriage, lost the biggest obstacle and the situation became clear. As I mentioned in the last lecture, there is not only one interest group in Rong Guo Fu, but also another interest group, Aunt Zhao and Jia Huan, who also killed her. It is very likely that Jia Chang and Jia Ling dispensed medicines, making Lin Daiyu exist as a secular life and suffer from chronic poisoning. Plus, as I told you last time, who does Aunt Zhao have the most say in front of? No one may listen to anyone she tells. There is one person, whether listening or not, who says in her ear that there is no problem. This person is precisely Jia Zheng, the real legal owner of the Rong Guo mansion. So, after Jia's death, Lin Daiyu had no backer, and the golden jade marriage was in full swing. She ate the medicine that Aunt Zhao matched through Jia Chang and Jia Ling, and was chronically poisoned. Aunt Zhao also reported the so-called misconduct between her and Baoyu to Jia Zheng, so Lin Daiyu's situation was very bad, and the most important thing was that Lin Daiyu came to the world to return tears, and her tears had basically dried up. So it's time for her to return to the sky. Therefore, Daiyu on earth, in this case, will take the initiative to end her life.
Commentary: Mr. Liu Xinwu believes that Lin Daiyu's life style is a poetic existence, and she also has the status of a fairy, so Lin Daiyu's death must be a poetic way. So, what kind of death will this be? And why did Mr Liu Xinwu come to such a conclusion?
Liu Xinwu: According to my research, after Cao Xueqin wrote 8 times, Lin Daiyu's final death form should be a more beautiful performance art than burying flowers. Then the way she takes, I personally think, is to sink into the lake. A red fan friend was impatient when he heard me say this. He said, I know. Do you mean that Daiyu committed suicide and jumped into the lake? First, I didn't say that Daiyu committed suicide. Daiyu is a fairy in the sky. You said suicide. I can't completely object to your generalization, because your meaning is generally correct, but I would rather choose another vocabulary, because Lin Daiyu arranged her farewell process poetically. She came and died poetically, so I think it's not so much suicide as fairy, that is, the fairy of the immortal, you know, she came from the celestial world and returned to the celestial world.
Then I strongly disapprove of jumping into the lake, because it shows that you are insensitive to the artistic difference between jumping into the lake and sinking into the lake. Jumping into the lake means plopping down a parabola from a height. Of course, you may die happily, but it is not poetic. Sinking into the lake means walking slowly from the shallow part of the water to the deep part after you get dressed. Very different. Don't think it's strange that I said this. In the modern history of China, some people adopted this artistic way of death to inspire the people. For example, a martyr named Chen Tianhua in the Revolution of 1911, have you heard of it? How did Chen Tianhua die? You see, some people have to say that they jumped into the sea. Chen Tianhua didn't jump into the sea, and Chen Tianhua is called jumping into the sea. This is a very important difference. Chen Tianhua felt very depressed. He aroused the people in China and ended the rule of the Qing Dynasty. He first cut off the braid that men were required to leave in the Qing Dynasty, so now he leaves a photo of Chen Tianhua. At that time, Chen Tianhua had photography in the world, and he had photos. He had shoulder-length hair, and a man had shoulder-length hair and cut a braid. Then in Japan, he jumped into the sea. This related literature can prove that. He left his last words. He walked in from the shallow place by the sea, step by step. When the sea hit his chest, he felt a feeling, and when his neck flooded his head. Finally, he felt that he had completed his mission in life and told everyone that he wanted to change the reality of such a feudal dynasty where Manchu ruled the Han nationality. Chen Tianhua, as an inspiring revolutionary, how do you evaluate such behavior is one thing, but he didn't jump into the sea, he jumped into the sea. So Lin Daiyu, now I emphasize that I told Lin Daiyu the way of death. You should not generalize it as jumping into a lake. She was sinking into a lake.
Commentary: Lin Daiyu, the most important female character in A Dream of Red Mansions, finally ended her life by drowning herself in the lake. Although it is somewhat unexpected, it is reasonable. But we can't help asking, what is Mr. Liu Xinwu's basis for Lin Daiyu's death by sinking into the lake? Is there any relevant evidence to prove his judgment in the first 8 chapters of A Dream of Red Mansions?
Liu Xinwu: so what do I base it on? I still have to study Cao Xueqin's works in the past 8 times. Because of Cao Xueqin's artistic technique, I have repeated it many times. It seems that many fans agree that he always has foreshadowing, and he always sets the stage in many places, and then echoes and takes care of it after a long time. Moreover, as I said last time, Zhi Yanzhai said that he is as fine as a dime. It is such a text. Some people say that reading A Dream of Red Mansions is tiring.
