Kurt Cobain (February 20, 1967 - April 5, 1994), a rock singer from Seattle, USA. Together with Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl, he formed one of the most popular bands in rock music history: Nirvana (Chinese translation: Nirvana).
Childhood
Kurt Cobain was born on February 20, 1967, in a small town called Hoquaim. Soon after, Kurt Cobain and his parents moved to another city, Aberdeen, a place dominated by the logging industry. His father (Don) soon found a job counting lumber locally, while his mother (Wendy) became a housewife.
Kurt Cobain was not very healthy in his childhood. Although he had some physical problems, his childhood was still full of happiness. He often plays a set of drums with a Mickey Mouse pattern on them, which his mother gave him, and often rides a bicycle given to him by his father.
When he was 9 years old, his parents decided to divorce. After their divorce, Kurt Cobain lived with his father, while his sister Kim lived with her mother. This divorce had a profound impact on Kurt Cobain. He was ashamed of his parents' divorce and even hated them. Moreover, because of this incident, he lost confidence in the outside world and lost his sense of security. He turned from extroverted and active to introverted, and even isolated himself. He started skipping school, getting into fights, vandalizing... and then taking drugs.
At first, Kurt Cobain lived with his father, but later he moved away because he could not get along with his stepmother. Since then, he has lived a life of no fixed abode. Sometimes he would live with his mother, and sometimes he would live with his father again. In addition, his places to stay include the homes of his grandparents, uncles and aunts, and friends' homes. He has lived with many different families, but none of them is his home.
High School
Kurt Cobain already wanted to form a band in high school. At that time, he met Krist Novoselic, who was two years older than him, and they Practice with him. During this period, they teamed up with several drummers, including Aaron Burckhard and Dale Crover, and changed the band's name several times. In the end, they chose Chad Channing as their drummer and used Nirvana as their name.
Bleach
In 1989, Nirvana released their first album Bleach. Bleach sold well and attracted more people to notice them. After that, they decided to leave the original record. company Sub Pop and signed with another record company, David Geffen Company (DGC). DGC is a very large company, and Nirvana was the first non-mainstream band to join a major record company. In September of the same year, Nirvana, who replaced Dave Grohl as drummer, released their second album Nevermind. One of the songs, Smells Like Teen Spirit, was not only the main reason for the success of Nevermind, but also promoted Nirvana into mainstream music.
Although not many people understand the true meaning of the lyrics, the song itself is enough to attract countless listeners. Nevermind sold over 10 million copies. But Kurt Cobain couldn't accept these facts for a while. He suddenly became popular and rich, but he found that he couldn't adapt to this kind of star life. He started experimenting with heroin as early as the 1990s, and after he became famous, his usage increased instead of decreasing. He explained that heroin could relieve the pain of his stomach ulcer and intestinal pain, but in fact, his heroin use was related to these stresses. Later, he and his wife Courtney Love were exposed by the media as drug addicts and received great pressure from public opinion. He used heroin more frequently, and occasionally fell into coma due to overdose.
Kurt Cobain discovered that many people misunderstood the meaning of his lyrics. The most obvious example is the song Rape Me (Chinese translation: Rape Me). Rape Me is actually an anti-rape song, but in fact many people have completely misunderstood Kurt Cobain's original intention. The Singapore government even asked Nirvana to change Rape Me to another song name so that their third album In Utero could be sold in Singapore
On February 24, 1992, Kurt Cobain and Pregnant Courtney Love got married in Hawaii. On August 18 of the same year, their daughter Frances Bean Cobain was born.
In September 1993, In Utero was officially released. This album was highly praised and sold very well. Although it disappointed some fans who just liked the Nevermind style.
Died
On March 4, 1994, Kurt Cobain fell into a coma due to a drug overdose. He was sent to the hospital. Fortunately, after some rescue, He wakes up. It is generally believed that this was an attempted suicide and not really an accident. After leaving the hospital, he went to a rehabilitation center called Exodus Rehabilitation Center to detoxify, but he escaped two days later and returned to Seattle. His whereabouts have since been lost. Until April 8, an electrician discovered Kurt Cobain's body in his residence. When the police broke in, they found that he had shot himself. The medical examiner confirmed that he committed suicide on April 5, and there was a suicide note beside him.
Kurt Cobain was only 27 years old when he died, leaving behind his wife, 19-month-old daughter, friends and music fans. All he left behind was a suicide note and music.
Quotes
It is better to burn calmly than to linger. (Original suicide note: It's better to burn out, than fade away.).
Ain't got no how watchamacallit
There are many different interpretations of this sentence, and there is no conclusion yet. The main explanations are as follows:
1. I don't have ... .... What do you call it? I don't have. . . how do you say? (Seems like it means there are no drugs on you)
2. I don't have the thing I can't think of the word for I don't have the thing, I can't think of the word for. . .
3. Four Ts (When he wrote these words, the letter T was four times the size of the other letters and very conspicuous)
4.
Nonsense (some Americans believe that this sentence itself has no meaning, and some even hate discussing this topic. Maybe it is his personality)
