Forgive sb. for his past misdeeds
Only today did I know that "letting bygones be bygones" came from The Analects of Confucius.

The original text is like this:

Sorry to let society kill me. The scholar said to me: pine, yin cypress, Zhou chestnut, it is thrilling. Hearing this, Zi said, "It's no use crying over spilt milk. If you don't say anything, it's done. Let bygones be bygones."

Lu Aigong asked me what kind of wood I should use to be the god of the earth. The butcher said to me, "People in summer use pine, people in Yin use cypress and people in Zhou use chestnut, which makes people feel scared." After listening to these words, Confucius warned me: "What has been done need not be explained, what has been done need not be remonstrated, and what has been done need not be pursued."

On the occasion of the new year, let bygones be bygones, let bygones be bygones, don't mix now, the future can be expected.
