Zhao Dengyu
Birthplace: Heze, Shandong (then commander of the 132nd Division of the 29th Army)
Classic quote: "It is the duty of a soldier to die on the battlefield. There is nothing wrong with it." The only thing worthy of sadness is that my mother is old and I asked the deputy commander to take care of her."
Background: After the July 7th Incident, Zhao Dengyu led his troops northward. On the morning of July 28, the Japanese army launched a fierce attack on Nanyuan with the support of dozens of aircraft. Zhao was shot and wounded in his right arm. His subordinates persuaded him to withdraw from the battle, but he refused. Later, he was ordered to lead his troops to assemble at Dahongmen in the south of the city. Unfortunately, he was shot in the chest by a Japanese ambush and died heroically for his country. This was what he asked the deployment to tell Deputy Army Commander Tong Linge before he died.
