Zhang Ailing's Chinese level is still a mystery. There is no doubt that she is a master of using Chinese because of her maturity in My Dream of Genius and her outstanding achievements in Legend and Gossip. However, when he applied to St. John's University at the age of 22, he failed in Chinese and was not admitted. Fortunately, she didn't get the chance to go to England, so occupied Shanghai may produce an important writer of China in the 20th century. Before becoming a writer in China, Zhang Ailing was an English writer: this year, she wrote many articles in English for The Times and Twentieth Century, and later translated them into Chinese, which constituted an important chapter in the prose collection Gossip.

Zhang Ailing is surrounded by two very important people, one is her menstruation, and the other is her Ceylon friend Yan Ying. She wrote quotations for them respectively. Aunt's maverick and Yingying's naive romance are complementary or antagonistic to Zhang Ailing's own personality.
The relationship between Zhang Ailing's works and the times is much more distant than that of her predecessors, peers and younger generations. However, the rise and fall of Zhang Ailing's creative career is most influenced by her time. "The times are hasty, already being destroyed, and more destruction is coming", which first destroyed Zhang Ailing. After just two years of prosperity, Zhang Ailing's creation has declined. Although she still has a few outstanding works, on the whole, there is no era in the history of China literature that belongs to Zhang Ailing.
In Zhang Ailing's last years, she didn't do much except a few photos, seemingly too concise descriptions and a comparative record composed of several essays. There is no place for Hu Lancheng and her later American husband Yala in the comparison, which shows that Zhang Ailing would rather forget her love life. The autobiographical work "little reunion" predicted has not appeared so far, and perhaps it has not been written at all. She spends all her time moving around, and the reason for moving around is skin allergy. She always suspects that unknown insects are biting her, which reminds us of what she said decades ago: "Life is a gorgeous robe, full of fleas". Is it really a prophecy? However, Zhang Ailing's life, whether it is the glory before or the loneliness later, is indeed "gorgeous".
