Information about Fang Zhimin

"The enemy can only chop off our heads, but can never shake our faith! Because the doctrine we believe in is the truth of the universe! Sacrifice for communism, shed blood for the Soviets, That is what we are very willing to do!”

When we recite Fang Zhimin’s immortal poems, we all stand in awe of this great communist fighter for his daring loyalty to the party and the revolutionary cause.

Fang Zhimin, born in 1899,

is a native of Yiyang County, Jiangxi Province. Joined the Chinese Socialist Youth League in August 1922. In March 1924, he transferred to the Communist Party of China. In January 1928, he participated in the leadership of the Yiheng Uprising, established the Northeast Jiangxi Soviet Area, and led the formation of the 10th Army of the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army. He successively served as Chairman of the Soviet Government of Northeastern Jiangxi Province, Fujian, Zhejiang and Jiangxi Province, political commissar of the 10th and 11th Red Army, and Secretary of the Fujian, Zhejiang and Jiangxi Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China. He combined the universal truth of Marxism with the reality of Northeastern Jiangxi and created a set of experiences in building the party, the army, and the establishment of a red regime. Mao Zedong called it a "Fang Zhimin-style" base.

In early November 1934, Fang Zhimin was ordered to lead the Red Army's anti-Japanese advance team northward and served as chairman of the Military and Political Committee of the 10th Red Army. When he arrived in southern Anhui, he was heavily pursued and intercepted by the Kuomintang troops. After fighting hard for more than two months, he was besieged by an enemy force seven times his own. He led the leading troops to fight hard to escape, but in order to support the follow-up troops, he fell back into the siege. Finally, he was outnumbered and was captured in Longshou Village, Yushan, Jiangxi Province on January 27, 1935. On the day of his arrest, two Kuomintang soldiers searched Fang Zhimin's body and found not a penny except for a pocket watch and a pen. As Fang Zhimin said: "Poverty, a clean and simple life, is where we revolutionaries can overcome many difficulties." In prison, facing the enemy's severe torture and inducement to surrender, he was upright and unyielding. He died heroically in Xiashawo, Nanchang, Jiangxi Province on August 6, 1935, at the age of 36.

Dong Cunrui

Dong Cunrui, born in 1929, is from Huailai County, Hebei Province. Born into a poor peasant family. He once served as the leader of a children's regiment. When he was 13 years old, he cleverly protected the secretary of the district committee from being hunted by the Japanese invaders. He was hailed as a "little anti-Japanese hero." Joined the Eighth Route Army in July 1945. Later he served as monitor of the sixth class of a certain department. Joined the Communist Party of China in March 1947. He had excellent military skills and was resourceful and brave in combat. In one battle, he captured more than 10 enemies by himself. He has performed major meritorious services 3 times and minor meritorious services 4 times, and won 3 "Brave Medals" and 1 "Mao Zedong Medal". The class he led won the title of "Dong Cunrui Military Training Model Class".

On May 25, 1948, our army’s attack on Longhua City began. Dong Cunrui's company was tasked with attacking Longhua Middle School, the key defense point of the Kuomintang defenders. He served as the leader of the demolition team and led his comrades to blow up 4 gun towers and 5 bunkers one after another, successfully completing the required tasks. The company immediately launched a charge and was suddenly blocked by fierce firepower from a hidden bridge-shaped bunker. The troops were blocked in the open area, and the second and fourth squads failed to blast the bunker twice. Dong Cunrui stepped forward and asked the company commander to fight: "I am a member of the Communist Party of China. Please allow me to go!" Resolutely picked up the packet of explosives and rushed to the bunker. Injuring his left leg while advancing, he tenaciously persisted and rushed to the bridge. Since the bridge-type bunker is more than tall from the ground, explosive packets cannot be placed on the bridge abutments at both ends. At the critical moment, he did not hesitate to hold up the explosive pack with his left hand, light the fuse with his right hand, and shouted: "For New China, charge!" The bunker was blown up, and Dong Cunrui opened a way forward for the troops with his own life. Lu, only 19 years old.
