There are two kinds of pens for oil painting: soft pen and hard pen, and the way of using the pen is related to the dilution degree of the pigment. Bristle pen for oil painting hard pen is cheap and moderate in thickness, suitable for painting dry pigments and thick coatings.
Oil painting soft pen wolf brush and man-made fiber wool
The former is suitable for drawing local details, such as facial depiction and realistic still life.
The latter is suitable for painting large areas of imagination, such as the distant sky, the distant mountains and the background color of people's clothes.
If you start to learn to draw, it is recommended to use a hard pen. Only with a hard pen can we show a rough and crazy oil painting style. Hard pen is richer in painting color than soft pen, and there are various types of bristle pens. Soft pen is only suitable for realistic painting style. Due to the limitation of brush wool, soft pens are mainly small and medium-sized pens, especially wolf hair (actually the hair on the tails of weasels and foxes) is only very small (about 2 cm wide at most).
Second, oil painting pigments
Novices suggest using low-grade pigments to save costs. If the pigment is expensive, it will be difficult to make progress if the pigment is used sparingly and the painting is thin. Therefore, it is difficult to make progress by buying cheap pigments and painting boldly. There is not much difference between the quality of paint and the quality of paint. Good pigments only have a long residence time, are not easy to crack and fade, and have good transparency (suitable for skilled painters to complete techniques).
To say that the best high-end is Japanese color, there is an old brand in Britain, around 36.
Third, the oil painting palette
Palettes can be made of local materials. You can use canvas to color, or you can use plywood or polaroid board. Although the plywood will absorb oil and water, it will be fine if you draw more.
