People living in slums are not only unable to get enough food and clothing, but also unable to receive a good education. They still follow traditions and ancient customs. People living here are not only poor but also ignorant, and the phenomenon of son preference is still staged here.
Located in the center of Mumbai, the commercial capital of India, Dharavi is the second largest slum in the world and the largest slum in Asia after Kibera in Nairobi, Kenya, with 600,000 people living in an area of nearly 2 square kilometers.
The ultimate victims of poverty and fertility are often women here. Many women have become numb fertility machines in order to complete the task of carrying on the family line. Many women died in dystocia because they didn't have the money to hire a midwife, and some contracted diseases because of the dirty and harsh environment in slums, and finally ended up dead without anyone taking care of them.
By 20 15, the total population of Mumbai has reached 21040,000, of which about1000,000 people live in the Dharavi slum with an area of 240 hectares. Dharavi slum is one of the largest slums in the world, where houses are crowded and sanitary conditions are poor. This is the inspiration for the movie Slumdog Millionaire in 2008.
