Discover the history of the card
Unlike traditional competitors MasterCard and Visa, Discover found that credit cards quickly gained a huge customer base. Generally speaking, the discovery card is free of annual fee, with high credit limit and high cash rebate. (2% at the earliest, and now it is as high as 5%).
However, Sears Department Store's plan to establish a "one-stop" financial service center is not as successful as Sears expected. It found that the promotion of the card was considered to have damaged Sears' turnover and limited the potential of the card. Other retailers refused to promote the Discover card because they thought it would help their competitors.
In view of these developments, Sears finally sold its financial business at 1993, and Sears began to accept MasterCard and Visa except Discover credit card.
