Dobby is a house elf. He is short, with bat-like ears, a slender nose and prominent green eyes as big as tennis balls. He used to be a servant of the Malfoy family. He wore nothing but an old pillowcase. It was not until he was free that he put on clothes that fit him. Dobby is still a bit masochistic, but this is stipulated by the slave status of the house elf.

Many years ago, Dobby was just a servant of the Malfoy family. He is often threatened, humiliated and scolded by his master (which is very common for house elves). Most domestic elves take this for granted and don't want to change their living conditions. Unlike Dobby, he doesn't like his master. When he heard that they were planning something, he rushed to help Harry Potter.

In the secret room, Dobby broke the rules of the house elf for thousands of years, so he had to punish himself. He did not hesitate to iron his hand and told Harry about Lucius' plot. Harry (among whom Dobby gave a lot of advice) successfully stopped lucius malfoy's plot and tricked him into giving Dobby a sock, which was equivalent to releasing the house elf from slavery and freeing Dobby.

After enjoying a period of freedom, Dobby and Shine went to work at Hogwarts, where he was also noticed-first, his disobedient attitude, and second, his work was paid. Moreover, paid sex work is very humiliating for house elves. Other elves sometimes avoid Dobby because Dobby has a plague.

Dobby collects clothes and likes to knit by himself. He attaches great importance to his friendship with Harry. Moreover, he can go to the castle to apparate (the house elf must not be seen, so he can), which proves that he is very valuable.

Because of his knowledge of the terrain at Hogwarts, he can only reluctantly cooperate with Kreacher (whom Harry inherited from Sirius) to follow Malfoy and monitor whether he has any suspicious behavior. Neither Dobby nor Kreacher likes this arrangement. Dobby hates Kreacher very much, but for Harry Potter's sake, he has to abandon his resentment and cooperate with Kreacher. They provided Harry with a lot of important information and inspired him how to "catch" Draco. Dobby is as loyal to Harry as ever. He has repeatedly shown that he is a good friend and ally. Harry will undoubtedly remember this in the coming war.

Dobby appeared in several later works and became Harry's best house elf friend.

In the last Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Dobby was stabbed to death in the chest by Bellatrix's silver dagger to save Harry and others, but he still took Harry to a safe place before he died. (See Chapter 23 of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.)

Before Dobby died, they went to Bill's apparition new home. Harry asked Dobby if he had reached his destination, but Dobby didn't respond. When Harry looked at Dobby, he was dying, and a silver dagger was inserted in his chest (Bella's dagger). He said "Harry Potter" before he died. Although he has left, Dobby tried his best to take Harry and them to their destination. How great he is! He is a hero!

After his death, Harry Potter personally dug up the ground and buried it near Furong's shell hut, and wrote an inscription-

Dobby sleeps here, a free soul.
