One: choose a good season?
Why do you want to see the aurora? First, choose the right season.
Because the so-called aurora does not cover the entire arctic circle, but appears in the form of a belt. When the aurora is strong, the polar aperture in the Arctic Circle becomes larger, and when it is weak, the polar aperture becomes smaller. If you are in the North Pole, there is actually no aurora, and there is no such thing as aurora in the North Pole.
Although the aurora belt does not coincide with the Arctic Circle, aurora can be seen almost everywhere around the Arctic Circle.
In order to see the aurora, we must ensure the following two points:
First, you must be able to stay up late, because the aurora usually appears between 10 local time and 2 am the next day.
Second, the night time should be as long as possible, because the aurora may appear at any time at night or anywhere in the sky.
Therefore, before you start to see the aurora, you must choose a season with as long a night as possible, and 10 is suitable for the following April.
Second, choose a good place to watch the aurora.
Is there an index that must be known about aurora? Aurora index, KP for short. KP-* * * is divided into ten levels. When KP=9, the aurora is the strongest and the coverage is the largest. When KP=0, the aurora is the weakest and the coverage is the smallest.
Generally speaking, when KP is greater than 3, you can already see the aurora.
(The picture below shows how much KP you can see in European countries. )
Three: choose good weather?
Choosing a good weather mainly means choosing a good weather. If you fly tens of thousands of kilometers and happen to meet the local snow and look up at the sky through the clouds, then the aurora will not be seen even if it is beautiful. So be sure to watch the weather forecast before you leave, and choose a cloudless day in Wan Li.
At the same time, we should also choose a warmer place. Observing the aurora, it is 90% in the middle of the night in winter, and it is unbearable for most people to stand in the wilderness for several hours in winter. In order to avoid the cold, it is particularly necessary to choose a relatively warm place. ?
