Extended information

Examination time:

The qualification examination for actuaries (including associate actuaries) of the North American Society of Actuaries is held once every spring and autumn. Spring exams are generally scheduled in early to mid-May, and autumn exams are generally scheduled in early to mid-November.

Examination subjects:

The actuary qualifications of the North American Society of Actuaries are divided into two levels, the formal actuary (FSA) qualification and the associate actuary (ASA) qualification.

To obtain the qualification of associate actuary, applicants need to obtain 300 credits. Associate actuaries must pass the 100 series and 200 series exams. The 100 series exams have 200 credits and are generally multiple-choice questions. The 200 series exams have 100 credits and are generally written questions.

After obtaining the associate actuary (ASA) qualification, you can take the actuary (FSA) qualification examination. To obtain the actuary qualification***, you need to obtain 450 credits. The actuary's examination*** has five directions: finance, group insurance and health insurance, individual life insurance and annuities, pensions and investments. Each direction has different elective courses.

Examination system:

The North American actuary examination system is divided into two stages: the first stage is the associate actuary (ASA). The current examination requirement for associate actuaries is 300 credits. In addition to the 11 courses in the 100 series (compound interest mathematics, actuarial mathematics, etc.), four courses in the 200 series (economic security planning, actuarial practice, etc.) must be passed. Each course ranges from 10 to 30 credits.

Students will become ASA after obtaining 300 credits, and can continue to take FSA courses thereafter. The exams for the 11 courses in the ASAl00 series all use English test papers in the form of multiple-choice questions, and the exam time ranges from 1 and a half hours to 4 hours.

The 200 series uses English written answer format. Whether a candidate has passed a certain course examination and the score obtained will be determined after all the examination papers of the course have been approved and arranged in order of results.
