The first question: For example, the word Buddha in the Infinite Life Sutra shows bodhicitta and keeps saying "Amitabha". Excuse me, master, what is bodhicitta? How to be a heart?
This bodhicitta is pure mind. When we say bodhicitta, we don't just say, "I am bodhicitta, and I want to live in the west." That is bodhicitta. That's not bodhicitta, it's a vow, also called a vow. In other words, this is also a slogan. The old monk said it was called "Toothache Curse", but it could not be called Bodhicitta.
What is bodhicitta? It is on the basis of strictly observing the precepts that the heart is pure, and the indifference it automatically causes can be called bodhicitta. Once this impersonal heart is sent out, there will be no sentient beings who are not one with themselves. There are no beings who are unwilling to save themselves. There is no such thing as "how do I sacrifice" or "how do I". There is only one thought, that is, to give everything to all sentient beings. This "sentient being" doesn't want to talk about it either, because he has no face. This heart, I think, is called bodhicitta.
This bodhicitta can only develop on the basis of strict discipline, and you can't develop without strict discipline. This ring is broken today, and so is that ring tomorrow. Do you still want to be Bodhi? I think your so-called mind is still made, not bodhicitta. So bodhicitta is born automatically.
This heart must respect the three treasures and strictly observe the precepts. What do you mean by strictly observing the precepts? This doesn't mean that we obey the precepts, but it is usually enough. This commandment must go beyond what you think and what you can stand.
Some people say: as long as I am a vegetarian, I am bodhicitta, or how can I be bodhicitta. That won't do, that is, not a spark is allowed to be committed. If you commit a crime, confess it immediately. For example, if you take a bus, you don't charge tickets. Only tickets are sold, not tickets. Do you want to buy this ticket or not? You can get off without buying, and no one is sitting. If you don't buy it, you are breaking the rules. If there is a flower in this land, it is planted in a factory, and many people pick it, you will also pick one. This is a thief.
For example, when we walk in the city, we just have a mouthful of phlegm to spit out. There are no spittoons and toilet paper at this time. Where do we spit? All we have to do is throw up, and then you break the rules. Because the state has an order to pay attention to hygiene. For another example, if there is a red light at the traffic post and you pass by when you see no one around, then you violate the rules. There is a railing on the side of this road. You are not allowed to cross it here. It's against the rules to go straight through when you see no one around.
In other words, we must strictly abide by the precepts, even the smallest ones, and that's all. You practiced in this way, which was very strict and didn't commit any crime. On this basis, coupled with your meditation skills, no matter how hard you study Buddha or meditate, it is possible to develop bodhicitta from time to time.
Why is it just possible? Because I only talked about one aspect, there are still many problems to be solved, and this can give birth to bodhicitta. In other words, bind your delusional heart to death with precepts, and don't let it have any freedom. When it dies, a Taoist mind is born. In other words, "people give up life", which is possible. Send bodhi heart, send this heart, he will not retreat. He didn't resign. No matter how difficult it is, he will practice and work hard. Therefore, this bodhicitta should be so motivated and work hard, and this can be done.
The second question: Buddhism depends on the biography of monks. Whether Buddhism lives in the world depends on the abbot of monks to carry it forward. The layman is the dharma protector, and the dharma protector is the duty of the layman, and the dharma protector is to live for a long time. If you don't go to the temple and don't know how to protect the three treasures, are you still laymen and believers? How to protect it as a law?
He has already said this. Buddhism is taught by monks, because the Buddha stipulated that in the last period of Dharma, monks should be responsible for speaking, walking, meditation and teaching. Even when the Buddha was alive, the commandments were handed down by monks. Including when Sakyamuni's father received the Five Commandments, the Buddha was not given by himself, but by a monk. Therefore, Buddhism has to rely on the monk group to survive and carry forward.
The head of the household is the protector of the family. What is a protection bit? Is to protect the position of the three treasures and practice. Why are there so many laymen and practitioners? Less achievement? Because he reversed the position.
For example, the mayor becomes a policeman and the policeman becomes a mayor. You said that the mayor would mess up the traffic by sitting on the traffic booth and directing the traffic police. What if the police become the mayor? He can upset the plans of the whole city. He doesn't understand. Therefore, if he were not in his position, he would not seek his own government because he did not have the ability. Therefore, monks are practitioners and laymen are protectors. If they are in your position, they can all play their roles and achieve their goals.
Why did the Buddha achieve many great things when he was alive? Just because you are a protector, you regard the protector as very important. For example, send a tree to the lonely elderly in the lonely garden. Why did he finally realize that even the Buddha led him out of the city gate? Because of the protection of the three treasures, the ground was paved with gold and bought to support the three treasures, so it was achieved. And Mrs. Molly and so on. Why is it realized? Because they know that their position is a protective position, it is very important to realize this position.
What about our laity now? What do many of them want to do in the temple? Fight for the position of internship. "Teacher, I got the Dojo. My master, are you practicing here? Will I be allowed to recite Buddha? Will I be allowed to meditate? " He asked this. I gave him an answer, and I said, "We only know how to do it here, but we don't know how to practice. You still go somewhere else! " Because he came to the wrong place.
Some laity came and I said, "What are you doing here?" "I just came to Sambo to do some work." I said, "Stay." If you want to work, I will stay. Because of what? It's not that we lack workers and jobs. But what we need is a yogi who knows his position. How to practice if you can't find your own position? There is something wrong with Buddhism.
Why are so many monasteries laymen now? Just because he didn't know he was a protector, he wanted to practice. He had the final say in everything. In the end, he replaced the monk, and the result was to go to hell, which was a sin of going to hell. Therefore, as a layman, we must be cautious and find our own position. Don't say I came to any temple to practice. I just came to work. I'm here to be happy.
Not to mention a layman, but a monk is "to be determined". From the monk's point of view, a monk comes to be "to be determined". If he goes to the living room of the temple and says, "What are you doing here?" Said, "I'm here to sign the bill." As soon as this sentence is said, the pending order will not be given immediately. Because what are you? You are a novice monk, and you are not qualified to register. What is a pending order? This is the internship here. Therefore, it is not eligible for pending orders.
What should the novice monk say when he arrives at the temple? "I'm begging for repentance." Pray for repentance. After listening to the request for repentance, the guest host said, "Stay!" He really knows that he is a novice monk. What is confession? "I'm here to be an ascetic and serve the public." Such people can stay.
Therefore, the rule of permanent residence may be unknown to many laymen. A lay man came to the temple and said, "Master, I want to register." We also knew that the lay man didn't know, so we didn't say anything and there was nothing we could do. How can I put it? Say: "You are not qualified to register." He was embarrassed, wasn't he? In fact, laymen can't go out to talk about pending orders, and even the novice monk can't talk about pending orders. Think about it. Shami can only say that he wants to repent. Then what do we lay people say when we go to the temple? Let's just say, I'm here to protect Sambo, do some work and quit my job. This is you.
Is it because I said so that I am in a low position? No, just like the police standing in the position of the police and the mayor standing in the position of the mayor, take your positions. In this way, the whole dharma can operate and achieve. If the position is reversed, he can't achieve it.
For example, Buddhist monks, as we all know, Buddhism has made Buddha, but all Buddhism is said by Buddha. Putting Buddhism in front of Buddha is guilty and wrong. Buddha must be placed in front of Buddhism. Buddhism, Dharma and Monk are in this order, that is, if Buddhism is practiced, it will not lead to sin and we can practice. You see, this position is not allowed to be reversed, what's more, as a layman, we should be more aware of this position of the guardian.
How to protect Buddhism as Buddhism? First, don't give money to monks. The lay man gave money to the monk as soon as they met, thinking that such support was a kind of piety. For you, it is indeed a sincere heart, but the same thing, because you are not as good as the law, will cause monks to violate the rules. Monks are not allowed to touch money, so they can't raise money. We laity must know the commandments.
If you don't touch money, how can you protect it? Then let's see if the monks have any difficulties that we need to solve and help. But first of all, you have to understand that it is not Sambo that needs you, but you need Sambo and a piece of Futian to bless you. Some people go to the temple and say, "Master, I'm here to protect you! See what difficulties you have, and I'll help you. " After listening, I can only say that I am smiling. I know he is kind. Look, I don't even want money. I only ask for one meal a day. What do I want? I want nothing. But why do you still accept something? Because I planted Futian for you.
Let me give you another example: there are several beggars in a state (region) in the United States. After years of begging, they are all rich. The state has made a decision that these beggars are rich and we are not allowed to beg in this place any more. Beggars can take care of themselves. They should move. Finally, I decided to send all the beggars to other places by car.
A few years after it was sent away, and after it was sent away peacefully in the past, criminal cases such as gambling, fighting and quarreling continued to occur in this place. Everyone wondered: there used to be so many beggars in this area, but now there are none. Why did the beggar leave so many things? After research, including that of religious people, it is found that this place cannot lack beggars. Because this person does not give alms, his morality cannot be improved. Only by constant efforts can morality be improved and people's hearts be at peace. So they found that beggars are very important, which is what they need. Finally, the country made a new decision and sent representatives to invite all the beggars back.
Let's talk about who needs who. We cannot reverse it. Many of us laity often think that the Three Treasures need our laity's protection. This is actually a big slow heart. How should I look at it? It should be the Three Treasures that give us opportunities for achievement and karma. It's our Futian. Let's become a Buddha as soon as possible. It is right that we should seize the opportunity and not lose it. So it can't be reversed.
What do you mean by protecting the law? Transforming your incorrect knowledge and achieving you is called protecting the law. Some people say that you can't do anything without me. In fact, people are exercising you and fulfilling you. Because we feel that many monks here say to me, "Master, let's go into the mountains!" " "I have long wanted to enter the mountains, but I don't want to stay in downtown when I hate it. This place is also considered as "downtown".
The monks here want to practice in the deep mountains. But one thing, Buddhism is not prosperous and Buddhism is not alive. Who will take the lead? So we still have this karma, and we have the responsibility to continue to inherit this law. So I can't go into the mountains and tell you again and again.
Some masters also said, "Master, why did you build those houses?" I said, "How can we plant Futian for all beings without building a house?" Besides, is it for us? Leave something for future generations and it's over. Sooner or later, we will enter the mountains. "
Therefore, the guardian must know the heart of Sambo, so that you will cherish Sambo and know how to be one with Sambo. There is no difference between your achievements in the position of protector and his achievements in the position of practitioner, but the method of practice is different. This must be clear.
