Shishou, a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Hubei Province, is under the management of Jingzhou City. Located in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River, the geographical center of the two lakes plains (Jianghan Plain and Dongting Lake Plain), the southern end of the central axis of Hubei Province, and an important city in the Yangtze River Economic Belt. Anxiang, Hunan has Huarong in the south, Jiangling in the north, Jianli in the province in the east and public security in the west.

Shishou is a landscape-garden-style city named Shishou Mountain, which is "isolated from rocks" in the north of the city. The stone head is a hilly plain. The whole terrain is slightly higher in the northwest, lower in the middle and inclined to the southwest. The ground elevation is generally between 365,438+0 meters and 36 meters. Yangtze River Swan Island Baiji Dolphin Nature Reserve and Swan Island Wetland Elk Nature Reserve are located in Shishou City, and Shishou was awarded the title of "China Elk Town". 20 17 10 was named as a national garden city by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development.

In the fifth year of Taikang in the Western Jin Dynasty (284), Shishou set up a county, and the word Shishou (named riverside Gushi) appeared for the first time in history.

In the second year of Gande in Song Taizu (964), Shishou was divided into two counties, Shishou County in the west, Lintong Mountain in the county seat, Jianning County in the east and Chagang Mountain in the county seat (within the territory of Diaoguan Town in Shishou). In the sixth year of Zong Shenxi Ning (1073), the abandoned Jianning County was merged into Shishou County, and the county seat was located in Chagangshan (Diaoguan Town, Shishou).

In the first year of Yuanyou (1086), Shishou County was divided into two parts, Jianning County in the east and Shishou County in the west. Shishou County moved to Linyi Mountain, and Jianning County is still in Chagang Mountain (within the territory of Shishou Diaoguan Town). In the fifth year of Huizong Chongning (1 106), Jianning County was abandoned and re-entered Shishou County.
