Nietzsche’s Superman Theory

Because Lu Xun said that Nietzsche was a madman, most Chinese students know that Nietzsche is a madman, and most people will associate Nietzsche's madness with Nietzsche's saying "God is dead". It's really a big misunderstanding.

Nietzsche was a man full of passion and despair, as well as a gentle wise man. It is true that he went crazy in the end, but we should not laugh at a genius like this.

Nietzsche inherited Schopenhauer’s metaphysics and transformed the “will to life” into the “will to power.” The will to power refers to the desire to make oneself stronger and more creative.

Nietzsche divides people into strong and weak. The strong embody the will to power, are positive and enterprising, while the weak are the opposite, timid and conservative.

Similarly, Nietzsche also divided morality into two types. One is the morality of the weak, also called slave morality and herd morality. On the surface, it is equality and friendship, but in fact it is the ability to restrain the strong in the name of morality. Another kind of morality is aristocratic morality, which encourages people to be proactive and independent, advocating strength and despising weakness. This is like the world view of the weak and the strong. In fact, Nietzsche also believed that human nature is inherently evil. This world is a world of the weak and the strong, and because the will to power is the thing itself, it is legitimate to show the cruelty of the strong.

But most strong people are actually suppressed by slave morality. Therefore, Nietzsche longed for the emergence of "Superman". The kind of strong person who can act completely according to his own will, can give full play to his creativity, and can get rid of slave morality and not be bound by the weak. So Nietzsche shouted "God is dead". He wanted to get rid of God so that people would not need to abide by Christian morality unconditionally.

Nietzsche, like Schopenhauer, is a pessimist. The difference is that Nietzsche's worldview is full of passion. Schopenhauer-style asceticism is just an escape for cowards. The strong should admit pain and face it.

Nietzsche added insult to injury for rationality. Since the essence of the world is the will to power, then reason and truth are just illusions constructed by the will to power, and human knowledge is just a tool used to control the world.

We may find Nietzsche’s theory of Superman very extreme. But compared to those who do not think about themselves, stick to the rules all day long out of fear, and accuse others of being evil heretics, Nietzsche is much better. Those who only want to obtain a comfortable afterlife by praying, pleasing, and flattering, but have never thought about relying on their own strength to fight, fight, and change their destiny in this world. Such incompetent and cowardly people are even more abhorrent.
