Socrates took his disciples around the world, and when he came home ten years later, all his disciples were full of knowledge. Before entering the city, Socrates sat down on a meadow in the suburbs and asked his disciples: Where are we sitting now? The disciple replied, sitting on the grass in the suburbs. Socrates said: Yes, let me give you the last lesson!
Socrates then asked: How can we get rid of these weeds on the ground? The disciples were very surprised. They didn't expect that the philosopher who has been exploring the mysteries of life asked such a simple question in the last lesson. Simple combination of points and lines
So a disciple spoke first: teacher, as long as there is a shovel, it is enough. The philosopher nodded.
Another disciple went on to say: burning is also a good idea. Socrates smiled and motioned for the next one.
The third disciple said: Sprinkling lime can get rid of all weeds.
Then we talked about the fourth disciple. He said: Just dig out the roots.
When all the disciples had finished speaking, Socrates stood up and said, That's all for this class. When you go back, clear the weeds in your own way. If it hasn't been removed, come again for one year. A year later, all the disciples came, but Socrates never came. However, the original gathering place is no longer overgrown with weeds, but a green crop.
The fact that I learned is that
There is only one way to get rid of weeds in the wilderness, and that is to plant crops in the field. People's unhealthy thoughts, such as greed and delusion, are stored in the eighth knowledge field like weeds. The best way to get rid of these bad seeds is to let the good seeds work. Practice is to cultivate your mind, so that good seeds can grow in your heart, and bad seeds have no chance to grow. From this point of view, the key to penance is not to seek dharma from the outside, but to cultivate one's own mind and sow good seeds of compassion, joy, purity and frankness on this soil, so that the Buddha can do it in nature, not to seek dharma from the outside. Self-possession is sentient beings; Know that you are a Buddha. Compassion is Guanyin, happiness is power, purity is Buddha, and integrity is Amitabha: people and I are sumeru, evil spirits are seawater, troubles are waves, poison is dragon, emptiness is ghosts and gods, dust and fatigue are fish and turtles, greed is hell, and stupidity is an animal.
