-Qian Liqun's speech in Peking University
Today, I am here to read this book with you.
Recently published "Those People in the Republic of China" was written by Xu Baike, a graduate student of Chinese Department in Peking University. After graduation, I worked as an editor in the supplement of Freezing Point of China Youth Daily. He wrote this book because he felt that there was something missing in his life and the lives of young people around him, mainly spiritual deficiency. So, I want to see "those people in the Republic of China", teachers, students and intellectuals in universities, how they live, how they study, teach and study, how they work, how they behave and live; What they pursue, what ideals they have, and what kind of spirit and demeanor they have; What does it inspire us to rebuild our lives and ideals today? I think these questions are also the thoughts and interests of all of you here.
Today, "I" leads "everyone" to read this book and get to know "those people in the Republic of China", which is very interesting. "Those people in the Republic of China" are the generation at the beginning of last century, that is, "1900 years later"; I was born in 1939, and I am a generation after 1930. Most of you are the generation after 1980. What will happen when these three generations meet?
1, why "not far" and "far apart"?
Look at this passage first. It resonated strongly with me: "There was a time when there was such a group of people. They think like that and live like that. They are not far away from us today, but the spirit, tradition and character they protect, care about and embody are far away from us. Reading them, we feel suddenly isolated from the world; Touching history, we often sigh. "
My question is, why "they are actually close to us in time" and we think they are "far away from us"? However, is it really far? Can you narrow this distance, from "far" to "near"?
What we are facing is the relationship between contemporary university teachers, students and intellectuals in real life and those in history. At this point, it suddenly occurred to me that if "those people from the Republic of China" really come here to attend the party today, do the college students, graduate students and these predecessors here have a common topic? What is this common topic?
This is what I want to discuss with you today.
2. What's wrong with "we"?
I noticed the reaction of a contemporary college student mentioned in the book. He said, "We free and useless souls will not feel those old gentlemen."
This is frank and thought-provoking. I have talked about my views on contemporary college students, the so-called "post-80 s", on many occasions. I have always stressed that every generation will have its own problems, and these problems must be solved by themselves. But some students always tell me that we also want to hear your views on the problems of this generation as an elderly person, which can at least provide us with thinking.
This generation grew up under the examination-oriented education, and since childhood, it has taken "getting into universities, especially famous universities" as the whole purpose of life; Now I got my wish and entered the university. After the initial excitement passed, I suddenly lost my goal and direction. Behind this is actually the lack of faith. This problem exists not only in your generation, but also in us. "God is dead" is a global problem. Our generation once believed in the "revolution", but now we find that there are many problems in the "revolution", which require reflection and introspection, and there is a sense of loss. However, we are old and can live according to the original inertia; But you can't. It hasn't started yet. You can't go on like this, so there is a lot of pain and trouble.
