1. Wen Tianxiang died generously
At that time, the ambitious Yuan Emperor Kublai Khan was searching for talents from the Central Plains. He first sent his surrender minister Wang Jiweng to persuade him to surrender, and later personally summoned Wen Tianxiang and asked him what other wishes he had. Wen Tianxiang replied: "I am entrusted by the country to serve as prime minister. How can I surrender to the Yuan Dynasty? My wish is to grant me death." Kublai Khan refused to kill him, so he imprisoned him in Yuandu for many years.
In his cell, Wen Tianxiang once wrote the "Song of Righteousness" that has been praised throughout the ages. In the poem, he listed the loyal ministers and righteous men in history who upheld justice, believing that they were all manifestations of righteousness and examples for him to follow. There are two sentences in it: The time is running out, and the pictures are revealed one by one. In 1282 AD, the righteous people gathered thousands of soldiers and horses, threatening to break the capital and rescue Prime Minister Wen. To avoid further trouble, Emperor Shizu of the Yuan Dynasty finally ordered Wen Tianxiang to be executed.
When he was about to be executed, Wen Tianxiang knelt down facing south and said calmly: "My affairs are over here." Then he died generously at the age of forty-seven. When his wife was burying him, she found an article in his belt that said: "Confucius said 'benevolence' and Mencius said 'righteousness'. Only when righteousness is exhausted, benevolence is the most important thing. What did you learn from reading the books of sages?" From now on, I will truly live up to my expectations."
2. Do not eat what you have received
There is a serious famine in Qi. Qian Ao prepared meals on the roadside for the hungry people passing by. A hungry man walked towards the place, covered his face with the sleeve, his feet shuffling, his eyes dull and lively. Qian Ao held food in his left hand and soup in his right hand, and said: "Hey! Come and eat!"
The hungry man looked up at him and said, "Because I don't eat the food given by others, That's why we ended up in this situation!" Qian Ao caught up with him and apologized, but he eventually starved to death because he didn't eat. After Zengzi heard about this, he said: "I'm afraid it doesn't have to be like this! When Qian Ao calls rudely, of course you can refuse, but after he apologizes, you can go and eat."
3. Reading for the Rise of China
In the self-cultivation class that day, Principal Wei asked the students a question: "Why do students study?" The students responded enthusiastically. Some say: "Read to understand reason." Some say: "Read to be an official." Others say: "Read to make money." "Read to eat."...
Zhou Enlai sat there quietly and did not rush to speak. Principal Wei noticed it, gestured for everyone to calm down, and called his name to answer. Zhou Enlai stood up and answered clearly and firmly: "Read for the rise of China!" Principal Wei was heartened after hearing this! He never expected that a twelve or thirteen-year-old child would have such ambition and ambition! He opened his eyes wide and asked again: "Tell me again, why are you studying?"
"Studying for the rise of China!" Zhou Enlai's sonorous and powerful words won the applause of Principal Wei: "Okay. Wow! For the rise of China! Those who are determined should be like Zhou Sheng!" Yes, the young Zhou Enlai had already realized that if the Chinese wanted to not be bullied by imperialism, they must revitalize China. Reading should be aimed at this.
4. Sima Qian wrote "Historical Records"
Sima Qian followed his father's will and determined to write a history book that could be "hidden in famous mountains and passed on to future generations." In the seventh year when he started writing this history book, the Li Ling case occurred. In a battle with the Xiongnu, General Li Ling of the Second Division was defeated and surrendered because he was outnumbered. Sima Qian defended Li Ling, which angered Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty. He was arrested and imprisoned, and suffered cruel "corruption".
After receiving sex, he planned to commit suicide due to the humiliation and pain, but he thought that his dream of writing a history book had not yet been completed. So he endured the humiliation and worked hard for 18 years before finally writing "Historical Records". It is the first of its kind in the general history of biographies in my country. It has rich and detailed historical materials and has always been highly praised by people. Lu Xun once spoke highly of "Historical Records" in extremely general terms: "The historian's swan song, the rhymeless lissao."
