20 14 on February 27th, the 7th meeting of the 12th the National People's Congress Standing Committee (NPCSC) adopted a decision to designate 65438+February 13 as the national public holiday day for the victims of the Nanjing massacre. The adoption of the resolution has raised the commemoration of the victims of the Nanjing Massacre to the national level, demonstrating the firm stance of the people of China in opposing the war of aggression, defending human dignity and safeguarding world peace.
Zhao Long, former member of the Standing Committee of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, was the first person to propose the establishment of a national public holiday day at the two sessions of the National People's Congress. In March 2005, this proposal submitted by 49 CPPCC members became a hot topic in the two sessions that year. Since then, the call for a national public holiday has never stopped.
At the end of 2004, after visiting the memorial hall, Zhao Long learned from Zhu Chengshan that after World War II, the governments of major participating countries successively launched national mourning days to pay homage to the victims in the form of national public sacrifices, while China, as a victorious country in World War II, did not have a similar day. The concept of national public sacrifice was first put forward by curator Zhu.
